Hot August Nights Foundation Makes Large Donations to Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows

RENO, Nev. (December 13, 2016) – December 2016 marks the final of four $25,000 installments from the Hot August Nights Foundation to Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. The total $100,000 donation was made over the past four years to fund the development of the William N. Pennington Youth Center, the Club’s newest and largest facility located on 1300 Foster Drive.
Mike Wurm, Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows said, “The Hot August Nights Foundation’s support is behind so many wonderful happenings at our Club. Their generous donation for the Pennington Youth Center was so very important to the project and it is because of partners like them, that we can continue to grow and be proud of what we are able to offer our members and the community. The HAN Foundation is an invaluable partner to our Club. Their kindness appears several times throughout the year.”
In addition to the Pennington Youth Center donation, The Hot August Nights Foundation has supported the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows’ male and female Youth of the Year for the past four years through college scholarships. This year, Kacie Nicholas and Jared Porter will each receive $5,000 for their first year of college form the HAN Foundation. Their scholarships of $2,500 each will renew for the next three years, so long as the recipients comply with the Youth of the Year scholarship credit and GPA stipulations.
Hot August Nights Foundation also helps the Boys & Girls Club members and surrounding community well into the holiday season. They orchestrated an annual coat drive with this year, volunteers collected nearly 350 new and gently-used winter coats that were distributed to members, their families, and the Truckee Meadows community during the Club’s annual Community Thanksgiving dinner. They also donate to our Ciopino feed, It Just Takes One program, and provide basketball uniforms for our members.
Finally, Hot August Nights Foundation took 30 teen and youth Club members on a Kohl’s department store shopping spree on Saturday, December 17th. Volunteers were each paired with a child to shop for items on that child’s wish lists. Every member had $100 to spend. Members are selected based on family and financial needs.
