SPECIALTY PROGRAMS

Technology Program

Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is proud to offer high quality technology programming for our members. We utilize many web resources to provide enrichment in the areas of digital arts, digital citizenship/internet safety, productivity software programming, digital music, and many other high yield activities to establish an environment of both learning and fun.

Education Program

Education programs are a core element of all Boys & Girls Club activities and daily goals. The Education Director and Coordinator help integrate national BGCA programs like Power Hour, Summer Brain Gain, and Project Learn at every BGCTM site, and also provide support with STEM programming and seasonal education activities. The Education program is also responsible for our site wide mentoring program, “Be GREAT! Graduate” which targets at-risk youth and provides them with 1-on-1 volunteer support. Our Literacy Program is implemented at several sites on a quarterly basis with proven success rates for our kinder through third graders who are struggling with reading and writing, and our great success in this program is also due to a partnership with all northern Nevada sites and the United Way. Finally, our education department helps our high school students on the path to College and beyond with our College Bound Case Files.

Leaders In Training (L.I.T.) Program

This program is for teen members interested in getting a job, going to college, and succeeding in life! Through the LIT Program teens learn the value of service by volunteering at community events and at the Boys & Girls Club as junior staff. As LITs, teens become financially literate, prepare for careers and college and can ultimately obtain a paid position at one of our many locations through out Truckee Meadows.

The Arts Program

This year-round program encourages artistic expression among Club members ages 6-18 through nine different categories of visual arts including monochromatic and multi-colored drawing, oil painting and watercolor, printmaking, collage, mixed media, pastel and group projects while providing opportunities for members to create artwork for display in a local exhibit.Up to 33 pieces of art (one piece per age group/category and one for the Group Project category) are selected from a Club’s local exhibit and sent to one of seven regional judging events and exhibits. At each regional judging, 33 pieces of artwork are chosen and sent to BGCA National Headquarters for judging and selection for the National Fine Arts Exhibit. The artwork is displayed throughout the ensuing year at BGCA events, including the National Conference.

S.M.A.R.T. Moves Program

The S.M.A.R.T. (Skills, Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves programs are nationally acclaimed prevention programs originally developed in the 1980s. These programs incorporate the latest information and approaches that the Boys & Girls Club has learned about effective prevention. Participants will be exposed to various activities designed to hone their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, create/maintain healthy eating habits as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity. S.M.A.R.T. Moves also focuses on other large scale issues such as bullying & suicide prevention and awareness.
